Ain’t no rest for the wicked
It’s ridiculous how busy I have been with the gym and not working. Well, to be honest, I’ve really been more busy with just training and socializing with the people at the gym than anything else. I mean yeah I do my brief spurts of work and make sure stuff is getting taken care of for my Dad’s work but I’ve been pretty preocuppied with Lightning MMA lately.
I bought a bike with Evan’s help the other day. I definitely think I misjudged him and I had to apologize to him for that. I mean there was definitely a time where he was kind of a sarcastic jerk to people but seeing him lately I think he’s past that, maybe we’ve all grown up a little bit. I’m stoked on the bike, mostly because its pink and has blue tires that accent the… accents? I went riding today and totally scorched my back in an effort to get rid of my awful drivers’ tan. I have to drive the M3 around with the windows down all the time since it has no AC and my slightly more pleasant car is in the police impound.
My new rule is “don’t eat anything that tastes good”. I want to be like ridiculous, when I eat well I feel awesome. I’ve trained everyday for probably 2.5 or 3 weeks now. Its absurd I know but my body is holding up. The gym has really been great for me, not just financially but also for my life. I really feel like I have something that’s really mine, that when I work on it I get the benefit out of it, not someone else. Not only that but I basically get to dictate the kind of attitude that the gym has, I’m probably there more than anybody else. There was a guy that came in this week who was severely overweight. The first time I saw him taking a class he threw up twice. I had to say I was impressed and a little intrigued that he even walked inside and gave it a shot. I talked to some of the other guys at the gym and they all said he was really interested in getting in shape but had no clue how to do it. During a break I went up and introduced myself because… well I dunno… I wanted to see if there was anything I could do to help.
He had a really cool story to tell, as do most of the guys at the gym, one of the main reasons I love what I do there. This kid started training a year ago becuase he wanted to fight at 265. This is the highest weight class they have and he’s a long way from making the cut to it. He said he doesn’t give a shit about his appearance (high five) but what he really wants is a chance to compete, so he knows he needs to lose the weight. We talked a bit about nutrition, I told him about my “if it tastes good don’t eat it” policy and that I wanted him to be in the gym atleast 5 times a week.
On tuesday we have an appointment to go to the grocery store together after training so I can show him the type of food I buy and how its not necessarily expensive to eat healthy. I’m also thinking of somehow getting him some protein and stuff at my expense just so that he can really get started. I know he won’t take a hand out so I might have to pull a sneaky and tell the guy at Nutri Stop he can charge me for it later on and pretend like he’s giving it to me for free. I’m sneaky like that. I think that there aren’t many times in life where you can actually do something good for others, especially for me cuz I’m not really all that thoughtful or good at anything but I thought this would be a good opportunity to actually make a difference to someone. I also hope that other people will see this kind of thing and that this kind of attitude will be perpetuated throughout our gym and people will take an extra step to get to know the odd guy at the gym and see what’s going on with him, maybe help out if they can.
I don’t know, I just know that the point of my life isn’t to make a bunch of money or be successful, I want to do something else, I just don’t know what.
Our garden is going nuts, you can see below how many freaking tomato’s we picked despite some of them being eaten by birds. I used the tomatoes, jalapenos, basil, all to make that delicious healthy pizza. Using tomato’s instead of pizza sauce is way tasty and totally gets rid of the salt. Screw pepperoni I use chicken breast.
On another note, I’ve been sleeping on the floor. While I was in India sleeping with Veejay, Bala’s neighbor. I noticed all he slept on was a yoga mat and a little foam mat below that. Pretty cool. When I was sleeping next to him on the floor I noticed my back problems pretty much disappeared after two days and as soon as I got back they started again thanks to my ridiculously soft mattress. Now that I’ve been sleeping on the floor my back is better, and, I like to know that my buddy on the other side of the planet is sleeping on the same thing. Hopefully when I go back over there it won’t be a problem to pass out on the floor.
I’m also thinking that since i want to do a bunch of low cost traveling in the future that getting used to sleeping on the floor will really save me some cash in the future. Who needs hostels when you have a yoga mat and a safe floor.
That’s all for now, PEACE.
